Jonne Karen (McCormick) Sanderson

Jonne Karen (McCormick) Sanderson, aged 81, of Conklin, MI, passed away peacefully surrounded by family the morning of April 16, 2025. She was born on August 28, 1943 in Grand Rapids, MI, to John and Dorothy McCormick. 

As a loving and cherished mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother to many, Jonne was the heart of the family that kept us all connected. She resided on Crockery Lake which came to be the gathering place for Sunday dinners, holiday celebrations, and summer fun with her family. This contributed to her endearing name given to her by her grandchildren, “Grandma at the Lake”. Jonne was no stranger to the water as she was a pioneer to the formation of one of the first all women swim teams in Grand Rapids during her school years. She was an avid diver and long-distance swimmer.  Jonne also enjoyed playing golf with her late husband Carl and being a member of the bowling and pool leagues.  She embraced her Irish heritage and expressed her love through cooking many family favorite dishes. Her famous strawberry jelly was one of the many her children and grandchildren would fight over to get the last jar! A true American woman, Jonne was a lifetime member of the Amvets Post 126 Auxiliary and provided service and patronage to our veterans.

She is survived by her sister, Patty (Mike) Fitzgerald; her children, John Nulty, Molly Bayles, Julie Finlayson, Jimmy (Barb) Nulty and Patrick Nulty; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Dorothy McCormick; husband, Carl Sanderson; and sisters, Suzanne Wilson and Jackie French. 

A cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home located at 4031 Clyde Park Ave SW, Wyoming, MI, on Thursday April 24th from 3:30pm to 5:30pm followed by a service at 5:30pm. Food and fellowship will follow the service at Amvets Post 126 located at 2929 Marshall Ave Grand Rapids, MI. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to Amvets Post 126.
