Jon Jay VanderWest, aged 53 of Grand Rapids, passed away suddenly and was welcomed home by his Savior on Saturday, December 30, 2017. He is survived by parents, Roger and Winona (Karsten) VanderWest; brother, Dean VanderWest; sister, Dawn and Tom Mulder; sister in law, Shirlene VanderWest; nieces and nephews, Jason and Kenna VanderWest, Chad VanderWest (Molly Wooldridge), Kim and Scott Hesselink, Kevin and Nikki Mulder; and three great nephews. Jon loved volunteering at the church food pantry as well as other church related activities. He enjoyed all sports, in particular Rockford and Grand Rapids Christian High School football games. Jon worked at Huizenga Brothers Greenhouses. A Memorial Service for Jon will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2017 at 12:00 pm at Brookside Christian Reformed Church, 3600 Kalamazoo Ave SE, Grand Rapids with Rev. Paul DeVries officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family at the church on Saturday from 10 am until noon. Memorial contributions may be made to the Food Pantry of Brookside Christian Reformed Church.

Prayers and Deepest Sympathy to the VanderWest Family! Jon and I went to school together, starting in Kindergarten all the way thru GRCH. We also both attended Milbrook CRC. A quiet & kind kid with a smile for everyone!!!

So sad to hear this--my prayers for the VanderWest family. I remember in school that Jon was a gentle soul, I can see his smile in my memory. May you be comforted by the Father.
