SLUITER - Mr. John C. Sluiter aged 80 passed away Thursday, September 14, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Minnie Sluiter; sisters, Barb Sluiter, Marian DeBruyn and Jean Boluyt. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Patricia; children, John (Janet) Sluiter, Jeff (Carmen) Sluiter, Paula (Ann) Bixler; grandchildren, Alison and Emma Sluiter, Mason Castro and Carson Sluiter, Rowan, Ayden and Sophia Bixler; sisters, Betty Appel, Jeane (Jack) Cooley; brother-in-law, Marvin Boluyt; several nieces and nephews. John proudly served his country in the US Navy and retired from GM after 41 years of service. He loved his family and was an avid Detroit Sports fan and enjoyed cheering on his children and grandchildren's activities. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11:00AM Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Assumption BVM, 6369 Belmont Ave. NE. His family will greet relatives and friends Monday from 1 to 3PM and 6 to 8PM at the Stegenga Funeral Chapel - Belmont, 1601 Post Dr. NE., and one hour prior to Mass at Church on Tuesday. A scripture service will be held 7:30PM Monday at the funeral chapel. Interment Plainfield Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Grand Rapids.
