John Henry Schuurman

John Henry Schuurman, of Caledonia MI, born December 24, 1944, joined the Lord on April 9, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his son, Brian Schuurman; parents, Theodore and Minnie (VanDruemel) Schuurmans; brother, Theodore Schuurmans; brothers-in-law, Gerald Zaagman Sr. and Richard Daniels; nephews, Theodore Martin Schuurmans, Billy Devine, and Gerard Zaagman Jr. He will be greatly missed by his Lotus Blossom and partner of 25 years, Sandra Haverkamp; daughter, Jennifer Schuurman (Chad Plaxton); grandson, Austin Gracia; sisters, Diane Zaagman and Sue Daniels; and many nieces, nephews, dear friends, neighbors, and colleagues. 

John served our country in the US Army from 1965-1967. He enjoyed nearly 60 fun and faithful years working as an integral part of the Kenowa Auto Supply family of stores, forever grateful to his partners in business for the opportunities it allowed him. 

Gregarious and goofy, hardworking and fun loving, he left a lasting impression on all who were lucky enough to have known him. He had a passion for league bowling, fast cars, fast boats, John Deere tractors, and spontaneously and frequently breaking into song. John was well known in his neighborhood for his U-pick Zinna and Sunflower garden. He was also a proud member of the American Legion, visiting more than 3 dozen posts across the nation (home post 305, Caledonia, MI.) 

Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the American Legion Post 305 (9548 Cherry Valley Ave SE, Caledonia) Sunday, April 27, 10am - noon.
