John Edward Smith, age 59, of Grandville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 12, 2019. John died peacefully at home following a battle with cancer.  John was born on September 29, 1959, in Battle Creek, Michigan. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Saipan.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Hallock and Martha Smith; daughter, Tiffany; and sister, Denise Hallock.  Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Bonnie Smith; sons, John, Arne, and Cory Smith; his grandson, Chayton “Bubby” Smith; stepmother, Dorothy Brown; brothers, Jim and Liz Hallock, Dennis and Sheila Hallock, Rick Brown, Ray and Rosa Brown; sister, Cristine Good; mother-in-law, Jean Holstege; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Judy and Ben Wigger, Deb and Bob Dams, Terry and Tammy Holstege; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.  Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 994 Paw Paw Dr. in Holland, Michigan.
