Remembering John Arrigo

John Francis Arrigo, age 63, of Caledonia, passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife, daughters and sister on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 after a spartan battle with cancer.  John was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and remained a city boy at heart all his life.  For those of you that knew John well (and most did because he loved to talk), you would know that he set the bar high when it came to never letting the facts get in the way of telling a good story; his passion, love and knowledge of all things music, mastering the art of food and cooking with his shirt off, using words not found in Webster’s Dictionary (known as “John-isms”), showing compassion and empathy to those in need, making people laugh and most of all, wearing his heart on his sleeve and loving until it hurt.  He was an amazing father, husband, brother, uncle and good friend.  He was a Son of the American Legion Post #305 in Caledonia.  John was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Benedetta (Licari) Arrigo.  He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Yvonne Fliearman Arrigo; three daughters and their partners: Jessica and Troy, Bianca and David, Meghan and Mark; his three grandchildren: Jacob, Giovanni, Sophia; sister and brother-in-law, Maria and Kirk Kemp; and many nieces and nephews.  Services for John will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Chapel, 616 E. Main St., Caledonia.  The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6-8:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be given to Gilda’s Club of Grand Rapids http://www.gildasclubgr.org/donate-corporate-giving or Spectrum Health Hospice https://give.spectrumhealth.org/donation.

My deepest sympathies to the family of Mr Arrigo. May they words at 2 Corinthians 1:3,4 be of comfort.

Deepest sympathy to all of you. Please give Fred and I a call if you need anything at all, even if you just need to talk. He was such a good man. I miss the phone ringing and John and I having conversation before I'd hand it over to Fred. Just remember we are here for y'all anytime. Hugs and prayers. Love you, Kim Severson

The most important testament to a man's character is the legacy he leaves behind in his children. He raised the most amazing, caring, and exceptional daughters... our thoughts and prayers are with you all. This man's legacy changed my life. Thank you.

To the Arrigo Family, I am so sorry for the loss of John. Dealing with death can be one of the hardest things that we can deal with in life. I know Words can only do so much in a time like this, but please take comfort from gods word at Isaiah 26:19- " Your dead will live. My corpses will rise up. Awake and shout joyfully you residents in the dust! The earth will let those powerless in death come to life!" Yes, The bible promises a resurrection right here to earth! (John 5:28,29) What a wonderful time it will be to see John again! Please know that I am thinking of you and your family at this difficult time! Sincerely, Caleb Aniol Jw.org

My heart goes out to YVonn and kids. John always brought a smile and laugh. Many fond memories of deer camp and him singing John Pryne songs. Every time I hear one I think of him. I have to work Friday nite and prior commitments Saturday but my thoughts are with you all. Dusty
