Jodie Dawson

Jodie Dawson, age 40, of Jenison passed into the loving arms of Jesus after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, August 29, 2015. She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; niece, Selah Green; nephew, Josiah Green; aunts, Janice Mars, Gloria (Merlin) Kredit. She is survived by her 2 children, Jasmine and Breyon Dawson; stepdaughter, Tiara Dawson; parents, Dave and Judy Ellens; sisters, Kimberly (Ben) Green, Melissa (Matt) Dupuis; 17 nieces and nephews; 1 grandson; many aunts, uncles and cousins. We also want to say a special thank you to her Amway family. You were a true blessing to all of us, thanks for every dollar earned, as well as your love and support. A special thank you to the caring staff at Faith Hospice, you were such a comfort to Jodie and our family. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to her children’s trust fund, c/o Judy Ellens. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, 11:00 am at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. with Pastor Pat Brady officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the funeral home (her children will be present for the evening visitation only).

Jodie was a person you could always count on for a smile on her face and kindness toward everyone. She will be remembered for so many things - her beauty, her angelic singing voice, her courage, her faith, her warm personality, and so much more. She was a true follower of Christ. She served Him, loved Him and lived for Him until her last breath. What a day of rejoicing it will be when we are reunited with her in heaven! My deepest sympathies to her mom and dad, sisters, and her children. You all loved her so well and it is very evident.

I am so sorry for the death of your beloved Jodie. Please know caring thoughts are with you during this time of great sorrow. Remember, not that Jodie has died, but that she Lived, and her life gave you memories too beautiful to forget. While grief at Jodie's passing is great - Joy in welcoming her back in the resurrection will be even greater, for Christ promised, "I Am The Resurrection and The Life. Jodie was THE babysitter for my children when I was completing my Ph.D. from 2000-2003. I knew that my 8 month old and my 6 year old would be loved while I was traveling to Ann Arbor for the day. My son who is now 21 remembers Jodie as always laughing and hugging him. I am sad that the world has lost such a good person. Thank you for sharing Jodie with my family.
