Joann Mikita

Joann Genevieve Mikita, age 74, of Grandville was taken into the hands of her Lord on Tuesday, April 11, 2023. Joann was preceded in death by her loving parents, Edwart and Genevieve (Stelmaszczuk) Osowski, and parents-in-law, Nicholas and Olga (Kolbryn) Mikita. Joann will be lovingly remembered by her husband of fifty years, James; sons, Patrick and Brian; brothers, Martin and Mark (wife Becky preceded in death by Jane); brother-in-law Dennis (wife Diane) Mikita. Additionally, Joann is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Joann served her community for many years working as a public grade schoolteacher (Kelloggsville Public Schools), private grade school teacher (St. Alphonsus in Grand Rapids), school librarian (St. Alphonsus in Grand Rapids), and at her favorite ladies clothing store (Liz Cliaborne). Joann will be remembered by friends and family as an intelligent, kind, and strong person. Joann was a loving wife, mother, and sister to her family. Joann’s passion for her home always showed through how her gardens were maintained and her houses decorated. Joann had the ability to bring the best solution to any project, both large and small. She will be missed by everyone she had the privilege to meet over these many years.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3937 Wilson Ave SW, Grandville with Fr. Stephen Durkee officiating. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday, April 26 from 6-8 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, with a prayer service at 7:30 pm. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Faith Hospice of Grand Rapids. The Mikita family would like to personally thank Faith Hospice for their unwavering support and comfort given during Joann’s last days on this earth.
