Joan (DeWinter) Wieringa, age 87, of Jenison, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, and is now free of her earthly struggles. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Robert. Joan was a loving mother to her children, LaVonne Wieringa and Daryll DeGraaf, Douglas and Melinda Wieringa, Lynn and William McInnis, Richard and Ronda Wieringa, Cheryl and Ron Blouw; grandchildren, Debra and Mark Lewis, Dean DeGraaf, Gwen and Ben Kloosterman, Aaron and Kari Wieringa, Kelly and Katlyn Wieringa, Breanne and Ben Thomas, Kelsey McInnis, Andrew McInnis, Blake and Lindsey Wieringa, Trenton and Chelsea Wieringa, Jori Wieringa, Jordan, Grant, and Payton Blouw; eleven great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law Marvin and Ruth DeWinter, Donald and Ruth DeWinter; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Edward Wieringa, David and Sharon Wieringa. Joan was also preceded in death by her parents, Marinus and Lucille DeWinter; parents-in-law, David and Christine Wieringa; brother and sister-in-law, John and Sylvia DeWinter; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Angeline and Anson Heyboer, John and Gertrude Wieringa, and Arlene Wieringa. Joan’s family would like to thank the staff of Sunset Manor for their loving care shown to Joan during her time at Sunset, and special thank you to Joan’s devoted friend, Betty. Joan was a woman of strong faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ and she loved her time spent at Payne Lake, volunteering, travelling, and family time. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Hudsonville Reformed Church, 3950 Highland Dr., Hudsonville, with Rev. Chad DeGraff officiating. Interment will be held at Georgetown Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Mission India or Tent Schools International (formerly Worldwide Christian Schools).

Dear Wieringa family, we are so sorry for your loss but rejoice in the life that Joan was given here on earth. Joan's example continues on within her family and the lives of the thousands she and Robert helped to educate.

Daryll and Lavonne, I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom is lovely and it must be peaceful to you that she is no longer struggling. It’s difficult to lose a parent no matter the age or struggle. I know you will find peace in all the wonderful memories.
