Joan Wilterdink, age 92, of Wyoming, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, December 13, 2025. She was born June 22, 1933, to Helen and Joseph Schaab. She was a very proud graduate of Catholic Central H.S. and later was employed by Michigan Bell Telephone Company. Joan married Richard Wilterdink, who was in the Navy. They moved throughout his tour of duties. Joan worked for Kreegers Dept store while in New Orleans. This is where they began their family of nine children. All of her children went to St. John Vianney and on to Catholic Central. They were members of St. John Vianney and were involved in teaching marriage enrichment classes. She taught CCD for high school. Joan was one of two women to be the first readers in the church. She loved music and played the piano. She was a member of the choir, loved to read, and was a crossword puzzle solver. Joan was also a Michigan State Spartan and Notre Dame fan as well as Detroit Tigers, Red Wings and Lions. Most of all she loved her Lord and adoration on Mondays at church, all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved spending weekends up north for birthdays and reunions at Elk, Hamlin, Brady, Fremont Lakes, Suttons Bay, Shanty Creek, and all her color tours. She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Joseph Schaab; her son, Tom; husband, Richard; sister-in-law, Joanne and Jack Steele. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Deborah and Bill Bruckman, Diane and Craig Engstrom, Mary and Dan Scott, Patti and Gerry Wojtaszek, Greg and LaVonne Wilterdink, Mark Wilterdink and Karla, Matt and Jodi Wilterdink, Mike and Sue Wilterdink; her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Andrew, Melissa, Jason, Kelly, April, Brittney, Brandon, Brooke, Ryan, Austin, Lauren, Kendall, Bethany, MaryCatherine, Brian, Chase and Sarena; her great-grandchildren, Brayden, Madelyn, Landen, Lillian, Charlie, Avah, Noah, Oliver, Benjamin, Jack, Zoe Joan, Penelope and Greyson; brother-in-law, James Wilterdink. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025, at St. John Vianney Church, 4101 Clyde Park Avenue SW, Wyoming with Rev. John Vallier officiating. Burial will be held at Resurrection Cemetery.
