Joan Kay Gort

Joan Kay Gort, age 80, of Wyoming, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 21, 2021, after a lengthy illness. She was born on August 6, 1940 to the late Charles and Mary Engel. She was preceded in death by her son, Darren Gort; sisters, Mary Jane Duer, Dori Kilbourne; brother, Robert Engel. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 61 years, Larry; sons, Scott Gort, Quentin (Jodi) Gort; daughter, Carie Gort; granddaughters, Ashley Getty, Cami Jo Gort, Caitlin (Corey) Hill, Courtney (Fred) Gewirtz, Haley Gort; grandsons, Corey (Beth) Keane, Casey Gort, Alex (Lindsey) Gort, Hayden (Amber) Gort, Nick Mercado, Dylan Gort; great grandchildren, Collin, Cameron, Jax, Carter, Grayson, Kennadie, Piper Marie; plus many nieces, nephews and long time friends. Joan graduated from Catholic Central in 1958, was married on April 11, 1959 and moved to the Wyoming area. She worked as a bookkeeper for over 30 years and then served on the Godwin Heights Board of Education for over nine years. Joan was a great wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. If you met Joan, five minutes later you were her friend. She was a good person with a heart of gold. She will be missed by all and never forgotten. The family cannot say enough good things about Emmanuel Hospice. She had a great team taking care of her, and their care and kindness was unbelievable. A public celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Scott, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. When you walked into a room with Joan present, you would immediately drawn to her amazing smile and dazzling eyes. She gave so much to so many.

Joan was a wonderful, beautiful woman and it was an honor to have provided care to her in her last days. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this journey. Larry and family, you are in my prayers. Please know you are on my mind and in my heart, always.
