Joan Brandenburg

Joan Marie (Jacques, Ranta) Brandenburg, age 92, of Grand Rapids, finished her earthly journey on Saturday, September 2, 2023. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, to Emerita (Kolufsky) and Phillip Jacques. She attended and graduated from St. Mary of Redford High School, the University of Detroit, and the University of Michigan. Joan worked in education at Grandville Public Schools for most of her career. Joan was a faithful servant of her Lord and a committed Catholic parishioner of her church, strongly believing in kindness, charity, and acceptance. She retired to Florida and Michigan in 1987 and moved to St. Ann’s Home in Grand Rapids in 2020. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dick; parents; brother, Phil; and daughter, Mary Kay. She is survived by her daughter, Joanie; son, Jim (Melanie); stepsons, Dale (Xulan), Jeff; grandchildren, Erin Lynn, Jim (Krista), Phil (Lindsey), and Tim (Andrea); six great-grandchildren; and special niece, Annette (Rick). A memorial is planned for the spring. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to St. Pius X Catholic Church in Grandville, Michigan or St. Martin de Porres Church in Jensen Beach, Florida.
