Jo Ann Steenstra

June 9, 1947 ~
March 26, 2025

Jo Ann Steenstra, age 77, took her final, obedient steps following her suffering Savior and entered into resurrected glory with Him on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. For those close to her, who struggled through these last steps with her, it seemed like a long journey which still ended too soon. Although she never married or had any biological children, she considered the members of Searchlight Ministries Church her “family”, the many students she taught over a 40+ year career at Grandville Christian School her “sons and daughters”, and her close neighbors on Windsor Hill Drive as her “brothers and sisters” in the Spirit. She is survived by one sister, Barb (Stan) Drenth of Hudsonville; one niece, Bekki (Borden) Buckley of Belding; two nephews, Derek (Kelly Boone) Drenth of Grandville, and Brent (Sue) DeHaan of Dorr; two grand nieces, Hannah Drenth and Ava Drenth; and numerous cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, George Steenstra; her mother, Mary Steenstra; and her brother and sister-in-law, John and Rosemary Steenstra. A Celebration of Her Life will be held at 2 pm on Friday, April 4, 2025 at Searchlight Ministries, 4020 22nd Ave., Hudsonville, with Pastor Sam Krikke officiating. Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Friday from 12:30 - 1:45 pm at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, financial gifts may be offered for Grandville Christian School, Searchlight Ministries, or Faith Hospice. Condolences may be sent online at www.mkdfuneralhome.com.

jo was a wonderful teacher, who rarely lost her sense of humor. she was loved by kids and parents alike. i always thought highly about how she kept her brain "fresh" with so many of the new things we've welcomed into the world in the last 40 some years. jo was also a very dear friend of my mother, and her fellow teacher, ruth vanzanten.(they were both intense dtroit tiger fans.) she will be missed, but i'm sure there's a cup of coffee waiting for her up in Heaven.

I always enjoyed chatting with Joe at GCS. Being a secretary in the office and she a teacher, we had lots of little impromptu conversations. Special memory of Jo was going to the movies with her and we each got a bucket of popcorn. Watching the movie and snacking away & Wearing light colored shirts you can imagine our giggles when we came out with butter stains all over our selves! Jo, you will be missed❤️
