Jimmy FA Kenyon

July 12, 1935 ~
February 7, 2022

Jimmy FA Kenyon, of Jenison, Michigan, was called home by his Lord on February 7, 2022, at the age of 86, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Marilyn R. Kenyon; their five children: Jim “Jake” and Ginny Kenyon, Carrie Broussard, Mike and Mary Oppenneer, Jane Niewiadomski, and John and Lucinda Kenyon; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Cindy Lipe. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenny and Cecilia Lipe; grandson, Richard “Casey” Dood; son-in-law, Tony Broussard; daughter-in-law, Michelle Kenyon; brother, Gerry Kenyon; sisters, Patricia Webber, and Marilyn Reis; and parents-in-law, Bill and Ruth VerHulst. Jimmy was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He graduated in 1954 from Godwin Heights High School, where he later served on the Godwin Heights School Board for 17 years. Jimmy retired from Michigan Consolidated Gas Company (DTE Energy) after 40 years of dedicated service. He was a member of St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, and he volunteered countless hours at church. Jimmy was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, where he later served as President and Vice-President of the local Marine Corps Coordinating Council for many years. He was an avid golfer and proud member at the Mines Golf Course. Jimmy also was a member of the West Catholic High School “family” as a parent and as an assistant varsity football coach. He was an active outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. Jimmy loved attending his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events, dance recitals, and school functions as well. He was extremely proud of his family and firmly believed that family was the most important thing in one’s life. He taught his children to be dedicated, compassionate, and loyal. “Pretty Jimmy”, as he was often referred to by his grandchildren, will be missed by his family and friends. All will miss his famous peanut butter cookies, homegrown tomatoes, and homemade salsa. Jimmy’s family would like to give a special thank you for all the care he received from some amazing health care providers, and a special thank you to Dr. Lewandoski, Dr. Swiatek, Dr. Gavin, and the entire Spectrum Health Hospice team. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at 12:30 p.m. at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, 50 Bellevue St. SW, Wyoming, with Fr. Danny Orris presiding. Burial Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday from 11:00-12:15 p.m. at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Marine Corps Coordinating Council, C/O David M. Ross, 4920 Dio Dr. NE, Cedar Springs, MI 49319.

Aunt Marilyn, Jake, Carrie, Mary, John and Jane, I’m so sorry for your loss. Uncle Jim was one of a kind and someone I enjoyed talking to. He was always so personable and caring. While he loved sports and life, he loved his family even more. While we weren’t blood relation, your family was always a part of ours. I know as Jimmy leaves us, he will make sure the ones that left before him are all doing well. It’s never easy losing someone you love, but it’s easier knowing that he lived life to the fullest. One of the Dr. Seuss quotes that we should remember at this time…Don’t cry because it over, Smile because it happened. We have all been blessed to have Jimmy happen in our life.

Jake (Mom and Carrie too) and the rest of your family....I can't tell you how said I was to hear about the loss of your husband & father. He was a great teacher, coach, father and friend. If he knew you he would do anything to help you to succeed. He touched the lives of many athletes and taught us all how to play football and win at both the game of football and life. He taught us that if you wanted something, work for it, really work for it and you will succeed. "Don't run like you are tip toeing through the tulips!" We will never forget him. Sincerely Ron & Michelle Klyn
