Family owned and operated for over 85 years.
Jimmy FA Kenyon, of Jenison, Michigan, was called home by his Lord on February 7, 2022, at the age of 86, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Marilyn R. Kenyon; their five children: Jim “Jake” and Ginny Kenyon, Carrie Broussard, Mike and Mary Oppenneer, Jane Niewiadomski, and John and Lucinda Kenyon; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Cindy Lipe. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenny and Cecilia Lipe; grandson, Richard “Casey” Dood; son-in-law, Tony Broussard; daughter-in-law, Michelle Kenyon; brother, Gerry Kenyon; sisters, Patricia Webber, and Marilyn Reis; and parents-in-law, Bill and Ruth VerHulst. Jimmy was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He graduated in 1954 from Godwin Heights High School, where he later served on the Godwin Heights School Board for 17 years. Jimmy retired from Michigan Consolidated Gas Company (DTE Energy) after 40 years of dedicated service. He was a member of St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, and he volunteered countless hours at church. Jimmy was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, where he later served as President and Vice-President of the local Marine Corps Coordinating Council for many years. He was an avid golfer and proud member at the Mines Golf Course. Jimmy also was a member of the West Catholic High School “family” as a parent and as an assistant varsity football coach. He was an active outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. Jimmy loved attending his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events, dance recitals, and school functions as well. He was extremely proud of his family and firmly believed that family was the most important thing in one’s life. He taught his children to be dedicated, compassionate, and loyal. “Pretty Jimmy”, as he was often referred to by his grandchildren, will be missed by his family and friends. All will miss his famous peanut butter cookies, homegrown tomatoes, and homemade salsa. Jimmy’s family would like to give a special thank you for all the care he received from some amazing health care providers, and a special thank you to Dr. Lewandoski, Dr. Swiatek, Dr. Gavin, and the entire Spectrum Health Hospice team. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at 12:30 p.m. at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, 50 Bellevue St. SW, Wyoming, with Fr. Danny Orris presiding.
