Jill Annette Barnes

March 11, 1969 ~
December 20, 2021

Jill Annette (Johnson) Barnes, age 52, of Jenison, went to be with her Lord on Monday, December 20, 2021. Jill’s life focus was her daughter, Emily, who tragically passed in October. When she wasn’t with her daughter, she loved hiking, rock hunting, collecting plants, and dinners out with her many friends. Every Monday night her dad and stepmom would pick her up for dinner-she rarely missed those outings! Anyone who knew Jill loved her infectious laugh and heard about all of her “kids”. As a longtime daycare provider, she always knew just what to do when it came to children. She cared for many over the years and loved them all. Many of her daycare families became lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Emily; mother, Dorothy; and brother, Dan Johnson. Jill will be lovingly remembered by her father and stepmother, Roger and Martha Johnson, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Jill was a beautiful soul, missed already by many. Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at Chapel Pointe, 3350 Baldwin St., Hudsonville, with Pastor Bob Bloom officiating. (Please use door C.) Burial will take place at Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday one hour prior to the service at church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Jenison Pink Out in Jill’s name.

Yesterday, December 20, 2021, in the early morning hours, our dear friend Jill Barnes passed away. She has been through the wringer this past year. She lost her brother just this May. She lost her only child to cancer at the young age of 21 just over a month ago. She faced things no one should have to face so close together, and she did it with courage - while fighting her own battle. Jill is a warrior! We reconnected with Jill in the summer of 2011 while looking for daycare for my firstborn, Tucker. We loved her instantly, as she always made us feel so good about leaving our son while we went to work. A few short months later, Tatum was on the way and Jill said, “If you guys need to drop Tucker off in the middle of the night, please call me.” Well, we sure did call her, at 2:30 AM, saying Tatum wanted to join the party. Lol. So we dropped Tucker off in the middle of night. It’s hard to find true friends like that. Jill was a true friend to us. She was so helpful with the kids as our mothers were transitioning to heaven. First with Jodee’s mom, by watching Tucker - 11 days before Tatum was born. Then, years later, with my mother: taking the kids endless nights for sleepovers, and still working with the kids all day in daycare. Having no separation for weeks. It meant the world to us, as we had time to spend with our moms. For this, I’m forever grateful. Even though the kids went to grade school, they would still go see Jill and hangout and have special times with her. Jill would go to all the birthday parties. We will forever treasure our friend Jill. She graduated Jenison High School, class of ‘87. I would like to thank the whole team that took care of Jill in her final weeks. She wanted to be home, and nowhere else. I thank all the caregivers that sacrificed and worked their tails off. The hospice team said they had never seen such a group of friends do this before. I’m thankful for that, and also for the new friends I made in the process. Jill, we will love you forever and cherish all the times we had. Although our hearts are just crushed, we are happy you are with Emily. Love you. Luke, Jodee, Tucker and Tatum
