Jelaine Bea Svec

Jelaine Bea (Gillis) Svec was born on September 22, 1947 to Archie and Marian Gillis. Her life on earth ended on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carl, and her son, Rodney Holmes. She is survived by her brother, Jack and Ruth Gillis; granddaughter, Elise Holmes; mother-in-law, Katie Salik; sisters-in-law, Gladys Holmes, Sharon Lewis; brother-in-law, Gary Salik; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Jelaine grew up and lived her life in Wyoming, Michigan. She was a 1964 graduate of Rogers High School. She was employed for several years by the Eberhard Grocery chain. Jelaine had fought a courageous health battle for the last decade. She lived the last year of her life at the Laurels of Kent in Lowell, Michigan. Funeral services will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Kentwood) 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, with Pastor Dennis Gilbert officiating. Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday from 3-5 pm and Saturday from 2-3 pm at the funeral home prior to the service. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Faith Hospice.

Jelaine I will always remember the wonderful times we shared in high school with the crazy six. Mike and I pray that you have found peace and are free of all pain. God be with Jack and Ruth during these difficult times ahead. Hugs to all your family. May you rest in peace Jelaine our friend.

Jelaine and I were buds from elementary school and our gang of 6 crazy girls from rogers. I could write a book on the crazy stuff we did in high school. Her dad got her a Hudson jet but she still wasn't a licensed driver so I would drive all of us. We put miles on Friday night driving her 1964 chevy..making the loop downtown grand rapids trying to meet guys. She was our girl taxi too and from school...one time she had to stay after school so she told me to drive them home..backing out I crashed into a car....when I picked her up we didn't want our parents to know....we drove around til we found where we could purchase a tail light and get dent popped out before parents found out....always a good hearted crazy soul...rest in peace my dear friend..thanks for the memories

I am so sorry for your loss. May fond memories of Jelaine bring you comfort during this hard time in your life. Look back on all the good memories you were able to have and smile at the fact that you were able to share these before she passed away. My hearts and prayers go out to you and your family. God has promised us that we will soon be reunited with our loved ones. “There is going to be a resurrection,” the Bible confirms at Acts 24:15. “Do not be amazed at this,” Jesus assures us, “for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.” (John 5:28, 29)
