Jean Nyhuis

April 12, 2021

Jean Carol Nyhuis, age 75, of Jenison, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 12, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Ruth Maring; and sister, Baby Mary. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jason and Shannon Nyhuis, Jamin Nyhuis; grandchildren, Makena, Camden, Nora Jean, and Nolan; siblings, John and Juliet Maring, Janet (Jean’s twin sister) and Larry Cotts; several nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. Jean was a loving mother to her two sons Jason and Jamin and daughter-in-law Shannon; a wonderful and doting grandmother, affectionately known as “GG” to her four beloved grandchildren. Her many travels with family and friends created wonderful lasting memories that deepened the relationships of family and friends. Her quick wit and keen sense of humor were enjoyed by everyone. Jean poured her love and empathy for people into her passion as a nurse. She was naturally nurturing and generous with everyone. She was always willing to listen, quick to support and ready to encourage. Constantly open to new experiences, she was grateful in the face of whatever life had to offer. The memories of our time with her will remain impressed in our hearts. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday, April 16, from 4-7 p.m. and Saturday, April 17, from 10 a.m.-noon at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville), 4145 Chicago Drive SW. So sorry for your loss, but what peace we have knowing she is with her Lord. Sweet sweet person, good memories of times we spent together. She made a wonderful warm artichoke dip, which she gladly shared the recipe. She will be missed but we have the hope and promise that we will one day see her again in heaven.

Oh my how I loved Jean. What a precious friend and nurse she was. She was always incredibly kind and incredibly helpful. And she was so funny she had a very quick wit and always had something smart to say that I never would’ve thought of until a long time later. She was so beautiful and so kind and so helpful. When I had my cancer a few years back she took me shopping for a dress for my anniversary when I was way too weak to go and help me pick it out she was just so sweet. I enjoyed my time working with her at Grand Rapids Ophthalmology in the surgery department. And we would go out to dinner once in a while or go to lunch and I will miss that. Rest in peace my sweet friend God bless.

To know Jean was to know a beautiful, kind and loving person. She brought light, joy and happiness to everyone she met. Jean was a wonderful grandmother to our shared grandchildren for which I will always be grateful. Jean will be forever loved and deeply missed.
