Jean Ettesvold

Jean C. Ettesvold (Kamp), aged 93 of Grand Rapids, passed away on Friday October28, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, Winfred; sisters, Anne Kamp, Gertrude Huisjen and niece Mary Huisjen. She is survived by her daughter, WinAnn (Joe) Schumi; granddaughters, Jennifer Schumi (Michael Cisneros) and Melissa (Dennis) Jones; great granddaughters, Madeleine and Isabella Jones; nephew, Kenneth (Jeanne) Huisjen; great-nephews, Jeff and Dan Huisjen; and very close friends, Gert and Hans Bokhout. Jean's career included teaching, serving as a Grand Rapids police officer and as a social worker. She was a long time member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church. Funeral services for Jean will be held on Thursday, November 3 at 12:00PM at Calvin Christian Reformed Church, 700 Ethel SE, Grand Rapids with Pastor Rebecca Jordan Heys, officiating. Internment at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family at the church on Thursday from 11:00AM to 12:00 PM prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Wedgewood Christian Services or Calvin Church Family Assistance Ministry.

Jean had been a long time friend to me. I taught in Kenowa Hills when she was a social worker there. I was just starting my teaching career. She was very helpful to this insecure teacher. We would meet for coffee after school even after she wasn't at Kenowa anymore. In later years when she was at Covenant Village I would see her quite often and for a long time she remembered me. I will miss her. She was always a great encourager to me.

Jean was a treasure to me in so many ways. Without her love and support, my life would be so different. God will have a special place in heaven for her . My condolences to her family. I just heard of her passing. I wish I could have been there.
