Jay John VanderKlok, age 84, of Jenison, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 3, 2015. Jay served his Lord with his time and talents in many ways, whether serving a pancake breakfast at church, driving people to various appointments, or whatever the need was, Jay always answered the call to serve. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Gerritt and Elizabeth VanderKlok; and brother-in-law, Howard DeBack. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Phyllis (DeBack) VanderKlok; daughters, Beverly and Tom Eisen, Kristin and Doug Bergman; grandchildren, Patricia and Aaron Streots, Paul Eisen, Jalynn, Candace, Abbie, and Josiah Bergman; 3 great grandchildren; sisters, Angie and Joel Blauwkamp, Betty and Jim Huberts; and brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Joyce and Irwin Koopman, Helen DeBack; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday 11 AM at Cottonwood Church, 1101 Cypress, Jenison with Rev. John Wiegers and Rev. Matthew Palsrok officiating. Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday from 5-8 PM at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive SW and Wednesday from 10-10:45 AM prior to the service at the church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Mississippi Christian Family Services or a Christian school of one’s choice.

Some of my best memories of childhood at church were of Jay flipping pancakes. He touched many lives. Both Jay and Phyllis. They will be missed.
