Janice M Thompson, aged 65 of Wyoming, went to a peaceful sleep surrounded by family, on March 10, 2018 after a long courageous battle with lung cancer. Jan was born on June 8, 1952, the oldest of 10 children. She was preceded in death by her parents Willis & Dorothy Darling and her in-laws John (Jack) and Lucy Thompson. She is survived by husband John Thompson, daughters: Pam (Chris) Jenks, Trisha (Robert) Dodd, Kelly (Derrick) Clark, grandchildren Lauren, Alyssa, Stephanie, Robert and Joshua; Siblings: Cathy (Henrik) Jonaitis, Marge Darling, Bill (Gina) Darling, Diane (John) Platte, Bob (Pam) Darling, Ed (Sue) Darling, Tim Darling, Tom (Therese) Darling, Ron (Karen) Darling, sister-in-law Mary (Eric) Warsin, brother-in-law David (Amy) Thompson and many nieces & nephews. Jan was a 1970 graduate of Kenowa Hills High School. She spent much of her younger years as a member of the Michigan State Grange. She was also a member of the Village Inn "Lushes" where she met John (her husband of 42 years and the love of her life) and where she also once won a beer chugging contest! Her entire career was spent working in the insurance industry. She had a unique sense of humor, and an incredible penchant for remembering odd bits of trivia and recalling obscure details about events. She proudly referred to herself as a "south-paw" and shared that with anyone she met who was also left-handed. She amazed people with her teeny tiny perfectly written cursive. She loved spending time with family & friends while camping, canoeing down the Platte River, playing Cribbage and other card games and playing Mexican Train Dominoes. She also enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, writing poems, fall canning with her daughter and grandkids, polka and square dancing. Much of their dating time included forcing John to learn to dance! She even introduced her grandkids to square dancing at the Grange. She loved many types of music and attending concerts. She was thrilled to finally see Blake Shelton in concert about 2 weeks before her death. She was a strong, hard-working, caring, thoughtful, giving woman, often buying gifts for grandkids and others "just because she thought of them". She always had a pot of coffee on for anyone who stopped by (or for herself!). She considered her Shelties as "her Boys". She will lovingly be missed by Tyler, TJ and Tag. She was met in Heaven by Traverse (My Handsome Prince), Teak and grand-dogs Belle and Jolie. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Great Lakes Caring Hospice or checks can be made payable to Stegenga Funeral Chapel to help offset arrangement expenses.
