Janice Irene Wachter

Janice Irene Wachter, age 93, passed away at home on Thursday February 3, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, Judd and Ruth Herweg; stepmother, Vera Herweg; siblings, Dean and Donna Herweg, Pete and Char Bennett, Lillian and Jay Colburn. Janice was born to Judd “Jack” and Ruth Herweg on February 12, 1928 in Elmhurst IL. She lived in Detroit, MI and Omaha, NE before settling in Carroll, Iowa. She attended Carroll Public School except for one year in Omaha and one year in Nebraska. She graduated salutatorian of C.H.S. in 1946. Janice graduated from St. Anthony School of Nursing in Carroll, Iowa in 1950. In 1953, she married Walter A. Wachter. They later divorced. She was a staff nurse at St. Anthony Hospital Carroll, an instructor at Autonian School of Practical Nursing in Carroll. She worked for the VA in Iowa City and retired as Head Nurse in 1988. During her retirement years, she volunteered for the Red Cross, blood drives, and the Historical Society of Iowa working on the WWII Project. In 2004, Janice moved to Comstock Park, MI to be close to extended family. Surviving are her son, Tom and Kathleen Wachter; grandchildren, Kevin and Minhee Wachter, Lisa and Mike Klapmust, Chad and Katy Wachter; great grandchildren, Trenton, Avalynn, Aubrey, Lily, Landon, Benson, Kevin Jr. and Tenley. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am on Friday, February 11 at MKD Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 1601 Post Drive NE, Belmont. The family will greet relatives and friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral chapel on Friday.
