Janette Catherine Mead , age 101, of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of Grand Rapids, went to her heavenly home on Friday, February 21, 2025.  Catherine came to Grand Rapids to manufacture rifle parts during WWII.  She stayed and worked many years and later retired from General Motors.  She returned to live in her hometown of Mount Pleasant in 2014.  She loved to dance, travel, listen to music, play cards and her many sweet treats.  She was very active in her church and also loved visiting family and friends.  She was a loving, kind woman with many amazing stories.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, James and Myra Mead; and her siblings: Stella (Bill) Murphy, Ethel (Stuart) Power, Joe (Margarite) Tarr, Lyman (Mary) Mead, Donald Mead, Ruth (Chet) Reid, Francis (Lylah) Mead, Alice Mead. James (Laura) Mead; and special friend, Gene Spiewak.  She will be lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews.

According to her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private burial will be held at Resurrection Cemetery.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Cathedral of St. Andrews Church.

I only just learned of Jan’s death and want to offer my condolences to her family. I was a volunteer with Jan for the funeral luncheons at the Cathedral of St. Andrew for many years. Jan was filled with joy and always a delight to be with - the first to show up to help and the last one to leave. Her deviled eggs were a big hit and the first thing to go when she made them for the funeral luncheons. Selfishly I was sorry to see her move to Mt. Pleasant for I missed her generous and happy spirit. Rest in peace Jan.

Catherine was such a special lady. It's hard to put into words what she meant to everyone here at Green Acres. We all loved her. She had the best stories and we loved to hear them over and over. My favorite one was how "Daddy always said he was going to buy me a car full of candy." But there were also the ones about when she lived with all the girls and the adventures they would have. Then there are the stories about all the dances and how much she loved to dance. Well, Catherine I hope Daddy greeted you with that car full of candy and you're dancing to your hearts content. Back here, we all miss you so much...activities will never be the same without you. Enjoy your next great adventure my sweet friend, until we meet again.
