Remembering Jane Westers

Jane Westers, age 88, of Jenison, peacefully passed into Glory on Sunday, August 23, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer. Jane had a unique sense of humor and a joyful spirit that brought happiness to those around her. She was a strong-willed, thoughtful, and deeply caring woman who was always willing to help others. She often showed her love through simple, meaningful acts of kindness, such as bringing meals to those who needed them or writing cards to encourage someone going through a challenging time. Jane truly lived as an example of being the hands and feet of Christ, faithfully serving others throughout her life.

Music was another meaningful part of Jane’s life. She played the piano for 50 years and found great joy in using her gift to serve others. Her faith was evident not only in the ways she served, but also in the way she cared for the people she loved.

Jane was a faithful wife to her husband, Chuck, for 68 years. Their life together was a beautiful testament to commitment, love, and faithfulness. Jane deeply loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved attending their concerts, games, and other activities, always proudly cheering them on. She prayed for each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren by name every day. Jane had an incredible ability to know just what to say and how to support someone when they needed encouragement. Her thoughtfulness, prayers, humor, and unwavering love left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed, but her example of faith, service, and love will continue to live on through her family and all those she touched.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, two brothers, and son-in-law, Fred Wals. Jane is survived by her husband of 68 years, Charles (Chuck) Westers; children, Rick (Pennie) Westers, Debbie (Tony) Trevino, Susi (late Fred) Wals, Sally (Tim) Lucas, Scott (Becky) Westers; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren with three more on the way; sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews, and close friends. We will miss her prayers, her cooking, and her piano playing. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, August 28, 2026, at New Community Church, 2340 Dean Lake Ave., Grand Rapids 49505 with Pastor Lew VanderMeer, Pastor Mark Kirsch, and Pastor Don Van Slyke officiating. Private burial will take place at Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Thursday, August 27 from 5-8 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to New Community Church or Mission Honduras

Where do I begin , I have known Jane and whole family for most of of my life, when my family came to Hudsonville in 81’ , chuck and Jane and family were my next door neighbors, they welcomed us with open arms, through church, meeting new people, opening up their house to us anytime!!! Swimming at their pool, helping me with my first born Ashley, they were the first people to visit me in hospital when ash was born!! Babysitting for Sal, and Deb and Tony many times!! I could always see and feel Jane’s love for her family!!! That was certain!! She was and is a class act! Heaven got a beautiful angel!!!

Chuck, I appreciated your call and was saddened to hear of Jane’s passing. I have such fond memories of the times you and Jane visited Traverse City. It was always wonderful to see you both, reminisce about old times, and enjoy lunch together. She will be deeply missed.

Chuck, Jane, and family were very good friends for many years, as well as church friends. She was a wonderful person, always kind and caring. Loved listening to her play the piano and singing in choir with her. Prayers for Chuck and the family, I am sure they will miss her dearly.

I am sorry to hear this news. I have many happy memories of Jane and Chuck from our days with CBH. I remember Jane's infectious laugh and broad smile. It was fun to have a brief encounter with her a few years ago on Facebook. May she rest in peace and rise in glory.

It's hard to let go, but time will help your loss.
