James Vesterfelt

Vesterfelt – James Arthur “Jim” Vesterfelt, aged 80, of Wyoming, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Grand Rapids MI after a month-long illness.

Jim was born on April 6, 1940 in Saginaw MI to Arthur and Elva (Lange) Vesterfelt, where he graduated from Saginaw High School in 1958. He then completed an accounting degree at Davenport College.

Not being an “inside” type of person, Jim instead enjoyed a series of on-the-road delivery and courier jobs in Michigan and California, including a position as a guard for the Brinks Corp. in San Francisco CA. His smile and humor made him a loved favorite of the customers on his routes.

Above all, Jim loved nature and being outdoors. He kayaked Michigan waters and spent many hours on the area’s nature trails riding his recumbent bike. He especially took joy in encountering deer in the fields during the early morning hours. Inside his home, football was his love.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, aunts and uncles. He is survived by his loving former wife, Nela Vesterfelt, with whom he remained the best of friends, and two special friends, Norma Stagray and Jane Rosenau. He also had good friends and neighbors at Leisure Acres in Wyoming, where he lived for many years.

As Jim requested, a simple cremation without a ceremony has taken place at Stegenga Funeral Home in Wyoming. His wishes were that his ashes be scattered in some beautiful spot in the UP.
