James Veldman

James Veldman, age 90, stepped into the presence of his Lord on Sunday, April 24, 2022. He was born March 8, 1932 in Sioux Center, IA. He moved to Grand Rapids, MI where he graduated from Aquinas College and began his career in banking. He retired from Hastings City Bank in 1997. James was an avid golfer, card player, and reader; whatever he did, he strove for excellence. He loved the Lord, studying God’s Word, memorizing Scripture, and serving others through teaching and prayer. He adored his wife of 64 years, Gracia (Schreur) with all his heart and loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His character and kindness will be remembered by those he leaves behind: wife, Gracia Ann Veldman; children, Curt and Lori Veldman, Mary and Bret Hoxworth, Sue and Craig Wiker, Ann and Kevin McPherson; grandchildren, Jeff and Danielle Veldman, Emily and Jon Kuiper, Rick Veldman, Megan and Jordan Newhof, Maria and Randy Dobbertein, Daryn Armstrong, Melissa and Kevin Korstange, Devon Armstrong, Damon Armstrong, Miranda Armstrong, Cole Wiker, Samantha Wiker, Chase Wiker, Josh and Whitney Samuels, Jacob McPherson, and James McPherson; his dearly loved 11 great-grandchildren; siblings, Everett and Joanne Veldman, Laurie Deters, Dan Veldman, and Rick Veldman. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Rev. Carl Haak officiating. The service will be viewable via livestream at www.mkdfuneralhome.com. Burial Winchester Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
