James Van Portfliet, age 84, of Jenison, was called home to be with his Lord on Thursday, October 3, 2019, and is completely healed in mind, body, and soul, freed from the earthly struggles of dementia. He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa who cherished his family. Jim retired after 44 years of faithful service from Williams Furniture. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adrian and Caroline Van Portfliet, step father, Roy Eshenaur; brothers, Matt, and Rod Van Portfliet. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 66 years, Patricia; children, Eric and Susan Van Portfliet, Sue and Bill Kamp, David and Jolene Van Portfliet, Barb and Kevin Jansen; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Kirk and Kelli Van Portfliet, (Mason, Hunter), Kevin Van Portfliet, Dirk and Kristy Van Portfliet, Aubrey and Ryan Manley (Ady, Lilly, Troy), Marlee and Nick Rivers (Delaney), Jason, Jesse, and Josh Wesenick, Nicky and Jesse Schellinger, David, and Olivia Jansen; his sister, Judy and Steven DeJong;  sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Linda McGeorge, Maria Van Portfliet, Marjorie Van Horn, David and Donna Furtney; many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 7, 2019, 2 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Rev. Harvey Heneveld officiating.  Interment Georgetown Township Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Hand2Hand Ministries.
