James Van Laar

On March 14, James Albert Van Laar, 87, passed peacefully into eternal glory. He is survived by Helen, his wife of 68 years; three daughters and their families, Vicki (Bill) Church, Janice (Mark) Smith, and Amy Gordon; ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren who loved and admired him. He is also survived by two siblings, Helen (Conrad) Bult, and Bob (Rosemary) Van Laar. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Gina (Lanser); and his brother, Dick Van Laar. Jim spent the last nineteen months living at Green Acres of Allendale where he was so well loved and cared for. Faith Hospice attended him so lovingly for the last nine months. The family is so thankful for the services they provided. Jim worked for many years as a brick mason for B.O.W. construction as well as an independent contractor. He served as an elder and was a faithful church attendee his entire life. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023, at 6 p.m. at Eastmanville United Reformed Church, 6845 Leonard St., Coopersville, with Pastor Jeph Nobel officiating. A reception and time of fellowship will follow the service. The burial will take place at Allendale Township Cemetery.
