James Trapkin

James H. Trapkin peacefully passed away the morning of January 6, 2017 surrounded by family. Jim was born on Jan. 7, 1931 in Patterson, New Jersey to James and Elsie Trapkin. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Mary Susannah Trapkin (Weaver). Those left to grieve his passing are his daughters, Jenni (Ernie) Dontis, Rachel (Paul) Curtis; his grandchildren, Emma Dontis, Nate Curtis, Sammy Curtis, Tatianna Curtis, and special friend of the family, Brenda Akers. After graduating from Hackensack High School, Jim attended Cooper Union University where he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Jim served in the US Navy for two years after his college graduation and then began a long career in the tire and rubber industry. He spent the majority of his working career at Firestone Tire and Rubber mostly as an HVAC engineer in Pottstown, PA and Akron, OH. Jim and his family spent many years working and living in Pottstown before relocating to Akron in 1976. He retired from Bridgestone/Firestone in 1991. Jim and Sue spent their retirement traveling and making memories with family in the Outer Banks. Jim enjoyed golf, gardening, and arguing politics with his conservative colleagues and family. He was passionate about treating people fairly and with respect, protecting the environment, and conservation. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials be made in Jim's memory to Cooper Union University, World Vision, or another charity you are passionate about. At Jim's request, there will be no service or visitation. Cremation has taken place. A gathering of friends and family will take place later at a location to be determined.
