James Stevens

June 26, 1954 ~
November 1, 2025

James William Stevens, aged 71, of Greenville, passed away in the comfort of his home on November 1, 2025, nearly one year after losing his wife of 42 years, Sharon Stevens. He was an outgoing, kind-hearted man who loved to make people laugh with practical jokes, one-liners, and quips of all kinds. If you had the pleasure of meeting Jim, you would have heard a joke or two; if you never had the pleasure of meeting him, he’s still going to make you laugh (or roll your eyes) - here is a joke from his notebook: “What’s the difference between arguing with your wife and arguing with a knife? One of them has a point!“ Jim will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his children, Jim and Nickie Stevens, Tom and Ruby Stevens, and Tammy and Kevin Velding; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his siblings, Mike Stevens and Sherry Newman, Julie and Bob Baar, and John and Heather Stevens; brothers and sisters-in-law; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Barbara Stevens. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 10, at 2 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Keith DeYoung officiating. The burial will take place at Jamestown Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Monday from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

I only knew Jim for a few months. We would always be our on his porch watching the deer or talking to a passerby. I would be walking to the dog park and he would be out there. He ALWAYS had 2 treats for my dog, we would talk for a few minutes then off I'd go. I learned a lot about Jim. But far his favorite topic was his daughter. He was so proud of her. Jim you will be missed - love Zac, Grizzly and "Baby" as Jim called him.

Such a kind heart with a smile I'll never forget. As well as the times he waited anxiously, knowing he wrapped a hair tie around the faucet sprayer, just waiting for me to turn the water on. He will always be remembered fpr his love of humor, hunting, companionship, and so much more. Rest easy in your robe and slippers my friend 🧡
