James Mohnke, Sr.

James Robert Mohnke, Sr., age 72, of Allendale, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 11, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones and his faithful dog, Huck.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife and longtime partner, Sherry Mohnke (Szczepanek); children, Wayne Mohnke (Nancy Chandler), Jimmy (Michelle) Mohnke, Ricky (Alexis) Mohnke, Jake (Taylor) Mohnke, and Ashleigh Mohnke; and many beloved grandchildren who brought him endless pride and joy. He is also survived by Sherry’s parents, Gary and Debbie Szczepanek; brothers-in-law who loved and admired him deeply; his best friend, Tom Widerski; and his special niece, Alexandria Keen; along with his siblings, nieces, and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart. 

Jim worked at West Michigan Piano for nearly 40 years, where he was admired for his dedication, craftsmanship, and kindness. A simple man with a big heart, Jim loved spending time outdoors-whether fishing, hunting, or simply being with his family. He always had venison on hand and stories to share from his time in the woods. A proud Michigan sports fan, Jim, never missed a game. He faithfully cheered for the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Lions, no matter the season or score. 

Jim will be remembered for his generosity, quiet strength, and unwavering love for his family. Even through his second battle with cancer, he never complained and continued to fight with dignity and courage. His loss leaves a tremendous void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at MKD Funeral Home (Allendale) 6651 Scott St. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Wednesday from 12-2 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
