James Jerome Wood

James Wood, age 72, of Allendale, woke up in the presence of his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 25, 2021 after a brief and difficult battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rusty and Evelyn Wood and father-in-law, Bill Wiersum. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Sharon Wood; children, Jennifer and Brian Kooshian, J. Michael and Stephanie Wood, Joshua and Jody Wood; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Pam Wood; brother, Jerry (Nina) Wood; several nieces and nephews. Jim was proud of his service in the US Navy, serving two tours in Vietnam. Jim worked 30 years as an electrical engineer, and recently retired after 15 years of working for the Hudsonville Post Office. He was a faithful member of the churches he has attended over the years, counting it a privilege to serve as an Elder at several churches and quietly working behind the scenes with his wife, Sharon. He had a heart for missions and was blessed to travel on many mission trips and support several missionaries. Family was especially important to Jim. He loved spending time with his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids, whether they were working on projects, golfing, or gathering for family meals. Jim was a servant-hearted husband who always put his wife, Sharon, first. His kids and grandkids all felt loved unconditionally by him and witnessed his faithful example as a man who served a good and loving God. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, October 29, 2021 at Lighthouse Community Church, 7624 Lake Michigan Dr., Allendale with Pastor Steve Demers officiating. Interment will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday, October 28, from 4-8 pm at the church, as well as from 10-11 am prior to the service on Friday. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Lighthouse Community Church Building Fund.
