James Hendler

HENDLER - Mr. James H. Hendler aged 67 of Grand Rapids passed away Thursday, January 5, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Ora Hendler. Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Maleerat; sons, Jamson (Sue) Hendler and Brant (Sondra) Hendler; grandkids, Aston, Morgan and Camille Hendler; and step-grandkids, Christian and Olivia Gapinski. James proudly served his country during the Vietnam Era with the US Air Force. He owned and operated West Michigan Engineering and lived an accomplished life, racing his bicycle and spending time with his wife watching their son Jamson, become a BMX World Champion in 1985 and watching their son Brant, win several Mountainbike National Championships. He also loved spending time with his grandkids, fishing, riding and hanging out. One of my father's wishes was that people would celebrate his life, accomplishments and the courage he displayed. He hated funerals and didn't wish to put anyone else through that on his behalf. At some point in the spring we will have a memorial race most likely at the Grand Rapids BMX track to celebrate his lifetime of achievements. We will post information as things develop.
