James Hage

James P. Hage, age 79, of Jenison, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 and is now whole and completely healed after a long journey with Alzheimer’s. Jim was born in Grand Rapids to the late Peter and Rena Hage and graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School where he met the love of his life, Marcia. He then went on to Ferris State University receiving his degree in accounting. 

Jim was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose quick wit and contagious smile brought joy to those around him. Blessed with a wonderful sense of humor, he had a way of making others laugh and feel at ease wherever he went. Jim worked as an accountant for many years in a variety of industries, earning the respect of coworkers for his dedication and integrity. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, a service he held with great pride throughout his life.

His family was his greatest treasure. He was deeply proud of his children and grandchildren and could always be found supporting their activities, cheering them on at every opportunity. A faithful member of Fair Haven Church, he served in many roles over the years, including deacon and assisting with accounting. He also volunteered with Love INC, living out his strong servant’s heart through his willingness to help others whenever there was a need.

He was blessed with a beautiful tenor voice and shared his love of music by singing in church choirs as well as with the Heritage Singing Men. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, working on puzzles, and following motorsports racing. Some of his most cherished memories were the trips he took with his boys to Talladega to attend NASCAR races, moments filled with laughter, excitement, and time together that his family will always hold close.

Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife of  60 years, Marcia (Post); children, Jeff and Tami Hage, Roger and Amy Hage; grandchildren, Tyler and Paige Hage, Zach and Taylin Bos, Jayden Hage (Tyleigh Burns), Brad Hage and fiancee’ Alainey Kennedy, Josh Hage; great-grandchildren, Braxton, Brody, Bristol, River, Lucie; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John Worst, Carlene DeHaan, Nancy and Jim Taylor, Lori and Jim Fongers; and many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth Worst, Marge and Tom Hoogeboom, Jack Haveman, and Ken DeHaan. 

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Jamestown) 2371 Riley St. with Pastor Rick Kiekentveld  officiating. Burial will take place at Rosedale Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Friday, May 1 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home and on Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Sunset Legacy Foundation or to Fair Haven Church. The family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the Waterford family for all of the love and support over the past years during Jim’s illness.
