James H. Stull

December 17, 2025

James H. Stull, aged 86, of Jenison, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.

Jim lived a life defined by devotion—to his family, his faith, and of course his beloved Detroit Tigers. No one was a bigger fan, and he loved spending many years attending spring training games with his family. After a dedicated teaching and coaching career, he went on to cheer on his kids and grandkids in all of their sports and activities. He was their number one fan with unwavering support no matter the outcome. Jim loved swinging a golf club, fishing on the big lake with his sons, and would never pass up an opportunity for a good cigar. He loved his family fiercely and showed them how to love unconditionally. His infectious smile, his love of life, and joyful spirit will live on forever.

Jim was a loving husband to his late wife, Gloria, who preceded him in death 20 years ago and has remained the love of his life. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ruth Stull; brother, Herk Stull; and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Surviving are his children, Sharon and Bob Wells, Jim and Cory Stull, John Stull, Sara and Scott Pedersen; his precious grandchildren: Peyton (Jon), Seth (Maureen), Mikaela (Chad), Jared, Lucas, Cailey, Cambrie, Drew, Blake, Grace, Brooke; and great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Charleigh, and Cash. He is also survived by his brother and sisters, Bob Stull, Sandy Ford, Betty (Tom) Williams, and Mary (Doug) Proctor along with many other family members and friends who loved him so much.

A memorial service will be held Monday, December 22, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville), 4145 Chicago Dr., with Jim’s dear friend, Rev. Fritz Kruithof, officiating. Private family interment will be held at Grandville Cemetery prior to the service. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, December 21 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Those who wish may make memorial contributions may do so to Sunset Communities Benevolent Fund.

The family offers sincere gratitude to the amazing staff at Waterford Place for providing Jim with a warm community and intentional care over the past several years. They truly treated him like family.

Sharon, Jim, John, Sara and family, Your dad loved you all abd was so proud of each of you. He and your mom were memorable to me during your high school years. They were both joyful. I can only imagine their reunion in heaven. Your parents were remarkable people. I am grateful he was able to show his love and support to your children as well. You are in my thoughts and prayers. May God comfort you.

Mr. Stull was my 7th grade Social Studies teacher. We always had to cut current events from the GR Press and bring them in. He and Gloria were also long time members of Beverly Reformed Church where my family also attended. He tried to get me to call him Jim when I reached adulthood, but I could never do it. He was always Mr. Stull to me. May God grant all his family members the peace that passeth all understanding.

Jim was a very kind man whom I always enjoyed chatting with as I put away his clothes at Waterford. We became quick friends and I will dearly miss him but am comforted knowing he is with Jesus and I will see him again in Heaven. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family as they mourn his passing…he truly cherished each one of you. With sincerest sympathy, Arlene
