James Douglas Schuitema

James Douglas Schuitema, age 84, of Jenison went to be with the Lord on Friday evening March 11, 2022 under the loving care of his son, daughter and Faith Hospice at his home. The son of Martin and Ellen Schuitema, Jim was born March 1, 1938 in Grand Rapids and grew up in the Wyoming-Grand Rapids area. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Marie Schuitema, together they raised 3 children. Jim retired after nearly 40 years as a technician at Michigan Bell. Jim loved spending time outdoors whether scuba diving in his younger days, hunting, fishing, or playing hockey. His favorite pastime was trail walking with his furry companion, Baxter. Jim cherished spending time with his family, going on camping trips and attending many sports or events for his grandchildren. Jim will be especially missed for his stories and laughter and devotion to his faith and family. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marie; and son, Steve Schuitema. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Cathy (Mike) Atwood; son, Dan (Tamara) Schuitema; grandchildren: Shelly, Shannon (Ryan), Bobby, Katie (Derek), Travis (Tiffany), Laurie, Sasha, and Nick; and 7 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 11 a.m at Resurrection Life Church in the Res Center (Door H), 5100 Ivanrest Ave SW, Grandville, MI 49418. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to Faith Hospice.
