James Bonthuis, age 90, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Hudsonville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 3, 2023. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Elinor; daughter-in-law, Kathy Bonthuis; brother, Ken Bonthuis; and sister-in-law, Marilyn VanDeelen. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Tom (Jeanette) Bonthuis, Deb (Mike) Burke, Sue (Randy) Barnes, Pat (Dan) Kremers; grandchildren, Rachael (Scott) Steenwyk, Emily (Jim) Hapner, Brendan (Courtney) Bonthuis, Sarah Bonthuis, Carly (Josh) Garvelink, Cami (Adam) Callow, Chris Barnes, Isaac Kremers, Josh Kremers, Eliza Kremers; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Marge (Jim) Bergsma; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Richard (Janice) Van Deelen, Margaret Bonthuis; many nieces and nephews; and close friend of the family, Margaret Wallace. The family is grateful for Jim’s wonderful caregivers and hospice team for their compassion and kindness. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023, at LaGrave Avenue Christian Reformed Church, 107 LaGrave Avenue SE, Grand Rapids. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. with the memorial service at 11 a.m.. A luncheon will follow the service. The service will be live streamed on lagrave.org. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Downtown Food Pantry (Westminster Presbyterian Church) or LaGrave Ave. CRC.
