James Alan Van Drie

James (Jim) Alan Van Drie, age 72, of Hudsonville, MI passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2021. Jim was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on June 15, 1948 and graduated from Unity Christian High School. He proudly served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He spent his career as an avionics electronic technician at GE Aviation Systems (formerly Smiths Industries and Lear Siegler). Jim enjoyed winters in Bradenton, FL following his retirement. He also loved gardening, singing in a variety of choirs in Michigan and Florida, and attending the sporting events of his grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Clarissa (Vis) Van Drie, and brother, Randy Van Drie. Jim is survived by his children, Chad Van Drie (Tina), Brian Van Drie (Kara), and Amy Deklyen (Rich); seven grandchildren, Mateo Lewis, Eli, Nate, and Brynn Van Drie, Colin, Aidan, and Ella Deklyen Nyajimma Yoel, Rebecca and Lidie Mubiyayi; and two great-grandchildren, Behira Wouwrut and Varnill “King” Johnson. He is also survived by his brothers, Doug Van Drie (Jan) and Ray Van Drie (Jan); his sister, Mary Billin (Todd); and his sister-in-law, Amy Van Drie; as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home in Grandville (4145 Chicago Dr SW) on Thursday, June 17 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Earl Slotman officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Thursday, June 17 from 1-2 p.m. The burial will take place at Georgetown Cemetery.
