Jack Wassenaar

Jack H. Wassenaar, age 84, of Kentwood, passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side on Sunday, August 13, 2017. He was born on August 25, 1932 in Grand Rapids, the son of the late Gerritt and Ann (Vanderploeg) Wassenaar. He was also preceded in death by his wives, Arlene (Dykstra) Wassenaar of 40 years, and Shirley (DeFouw) Wassenaar of 17 years; son, Jamie Wassenaar; sister, Betty (Wassenaar) Fitzgerald; brother, Norm Wassenaar. Jack is survived by his wife of four years, Dorothy (Monsma) Wassenaar; children, Randal and Mary Wassenaar, Garry and Jennie Wassenaar, Jeff and Marta Wassenaar, Michelle and Peter Toering; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Gordon Wassenaar. Jack was a proud veteran of the Korean War. He was foremost a strong man of faith and a loving husband and father. He was a successful home builder, businessman, and mentor to many. He spent many years working for and supporting the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ (The Jesus Film Project). He loved boating, traveling, and spending winters in West Palm Beach, FL. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Kentwood), 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE with Rev. Louis Konopka officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Tuesday from 6-8 pm at the funeral home, as well as Wednesday from 11-1 prior to the service. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Campus Crusade for Christ - The Jesus Film Project.
