During his career he made many life-long friends. Jack was a family man and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Jack is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marge; children, Tom and Carol, Pam and Mark Zietse, Tim and Gloria; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Marc and Renaul Buist (Carson, William, Addelaide), Michael and JoAnne Buist (Jack, Annelise, Kenzie), Nathan and Catherine Zietse, Nora and Josh Laarman (baby girl Laarman), Heather and Kevin Keil (Owen, Eli), TJ and Amanda Buist (Tenley, Connor), Kelsey and Ben DeGroot (Grady, Mabel); sister, Marge VandenBerg; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mattie Buist; parents-in-law, Charlie and Jenny Tiesma; siblings, Sam Buist, Jay and Betty Buist, Joyce and John Seif; siblings-in-law, Bill and Jo Tiesma, Pete and Anne Tiesma, Frank and Barb Tiesma, Eleanor VanDam, and Lee Valkema. Funeral services for Jack will be held on Tuesday, April 13 at 11:00 a.m. at Hillside Community Church, 1440 - 68th Street SE, Grand Rapids, with Pastor Ron Kool and Pastor Daniel Bud officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family at the church on Monday from 3 - 7 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be held at Blain Cemetery. To Jack, A life well lived. A laugh that would proceed and identify him before he came into view and too many hands to shake before sitting at a table. It is hard to express the thanks I feel for having had the experience of working with Jack and Tim and the crew at Interphase. And I mean to say “with” since I never felt like I worked for him. It was always with him toward the goal of being the best. I feel thankful to have had the experience of you, your family and Interphase. Ray

Jack was my boss for 8 great years. You could always find him in a crowd because of his marvelous laugh. His bear hugs were his trademark. I can smell his bread baking from Heaven. He was a dear good man and a great friend. We send our condolences because we know how much his family will miss him. God bless all of you and I was bless having known him. Lindy and Bert Crandell

My condolences to Marge, Tom, Pam, Tim and families. Jack was simply the best - best boss, mentor, advocate and friend anyone could hope for. I learned so much from him! It was a privilege and a pleasure to know not only the working man, but the private man and the family he so adored. My heart breaks for you all! Kathy

To the Buist Family, Our sympathy to all of you. We always thought your Dad & Mom were such a nice couple. We hope you find comfort in the special memories of happy times you shared. Once, we were fortunate to get a loaf of his famous bread. Wow, what a treat! My folks were neighbors on Mapleview. May God somehow bless you during this difficult time & give you His peace & strength. Sincerely, Tom & Patty (Velthouse) Graham
