Jack Weigle, age 81, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, departed his earthly home to enter his heavenly home on January 7, 2021, following an eight-week battle with Covid-19. Jack was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, where he graduated from Brentwood High School in 1957, Washington University in 1961, and the University of Missouri School of Medicine in 1965. Jack came to Michigan to do a one-year internship at Butterworth Hospital where he met the love of his life, Barbara Damstra, whom he married in 1966. Jack also fell in love with West Michigan and decided to continue his career at Butterworth. Following his three-year residency, he was in the U.S. Army, stationed in New Jersey for two years. He finished his military service as a Major and returned to Grandville, Michigan, where he practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology. During his thirty-five-year career, he delivered almost 8,000 babies and was Chief of OB-GYN at Butterworth from 1992-1996. Jack was a pillar of his community and a strong foundation for his family. A long-time member of Beverly Reformed Church, Jack was a man of faith who was guided by his Christian principles. His wisdom and kindness made those around him feel comfortable and valued. Jack was very involved in his community, serving on the Grandville School Board for twelve years. He and Barbara have supported Civic Theater since 1972 and became avid Grand Rapids Griffins fans, holding the same season tickets since the inaugural 1997 season. Jack enjoyed travelling, golfing at Sunnybrook Country Club, and spending time at their cottage in Holland on Lake Michigan - walking the beach, watching sunsets, and enjoying lake life with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara; his three children and nine grandchildren: Matthew and Jill Weigle (Noah and Nick), Rebecca and Brent Van Blois (Luke, Seth, Ross, and Kyle), Chad and Chelsie Weigle (Katie, Johanna, and Hunter). He is also survived by his brother, Don Weigle; sister, Nancy (Edward) Knarr; sister-in-law, Marcia (Larry) Lubbert; and twelve nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 12-3 p.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2021, at Woodhaven Reformed Church, 3959 68th St. SW, Byron Center. A memorial service honoring Jack’s life will also be held at Woodhaven at 4 p.m. Saturday. Masks and social distancing practices will be observed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Rapids Civic Theater.
The service will be live streamed and can be viewed via this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEZhmbbR33A
