Irving Leo Barker, age 91, of Hudsonville, left his earthly temple and went to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, January 19, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, C. Leo and Carrie L. Barker; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lester L. and Sadie Lowing. Irving graduated from Berlin High School in Marne, Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Calvin College with a BA; University of Michigan with an MA and EDS in Education. He was a teacher and principal for Wyoming Public Schools for 30 years. As a World War II veteran, he served in the US Army-Air Corp in England. He also was part owner with his father, of Marne Hardware and Implement. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Marilyn (Lowing) Barker; their children, Nancy (Daniel) Rittenhouse, Ronald (Jacqueline) Barker, David (Cheryl) Barker, Marcia (Lee) Bratton, Gregory (Kimberley) Barker, Julie (Brian) Chambers; 19 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; sister, Angela (Thomas) Loper; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Pauline (Cecil-deceased) Peterson, Janet (Andrew) VanDyke, Kenneth (Maxine) Lowing; many nieces, nephews and dear cousins. Funeral services will be held on Friday 11 am at Grace Community Church, 3500 New Holland, Hudsonville with Rev. Larry Miller officiating. Interment Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Grace Community Church Mission Outreach for Rob and Joy Weaver or Alzheimer’s Association of Grand Rapids.

Irv was a wonderful man. His kindness and compassion for others showed in the many ways he served his community. I remember he always spoke to me with kindness and gentleness. I knew he really cared.
