Family owned and operated for over 85 years.
Herman Quentin Steenstra, age 84, of Jenison, entered his heavenly home the morning of October 22, 2021, after a relatively short battle with cancer. For 41 years, Herm worked at Consumers Power Company and for 13 years he was a volunteer fireman with Georgetown Township. He was a Charter member at Cottonwood Christian Reformed Church and loved his various roles serving throughout the years. He enjoyed taking long road trips with friends around the United States and cherished his vacations with his family at Big Star Lake. Herm was always early for everything, so it is fitting that he arrived at his heavenly home earlier than his family was prepared for. He will be deeply missed by his bride of 62 years, Ethel (DeBoer) Steenstra; and his four daughters, Kathy Wall of Hudsonville, MI, Susie and Daryl Veldman of St. Joseph, MI, Patti and Jim LePard of Hudsonville, MI, and Betsy and Jason Emmert of Jenison, MI. He relished his role as Papa and Grandpa to Nicole (Wall) and Ted Godleski, Quentin Wall, Caleb and Alyssa LePard, Kate LePard, Jacob and Ally LePard, Olivia LePard, Levi LePard, Meagan Veldman, Lucas Veldman, Logan Veldman, Allyson Emmert, Jackson Emmert, and Juella Emmert. The icing on the cake was the addition of the great-grands, Amelia Godleski (Nicole and Ted), Leeland and Winslow LePard (Caleb and Alyssa), and Baby LePard on the way (Jacob and Ally). He was a very special Uncle to John and Lynn Gorter and family, Bob and Claudia Scholma, Kenny and Kristin Scholma and family, and Mark and Sandy DeGlopper and family. Herm comes from a very large family and is survived by his siblings, Hazel Dunn, Marilyn and Bob Ebels, Petie and John Vonk, Rog and Jan Steenstra, David and Linda Steenstra, and Judy (deceased) and Norm Schalk; as well as his brother-in-law, Eugene Van Dyken; and many nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate Herm’s life will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Cottonwood Church, 1101 Cypress Drive, Jenison, with Pastor Matt Palsrok officiating. The service will be livestreamed and can be viewed at www.cottonwoodcrc.com/steenstra. Relatives and friends may visit with the family during the luncheon following the service. A private family graveside service will be held earlier in the week at Georgetown Township Cemetery. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Crossroads Prison Ministries.
