Henry Van Sledright

Henry Van Sledright, age 85, of Gaines Township, was called home and welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus on Thursday, November 5, 2020. Henry was born to Henry and Alice Van Sledright on July 2, 1935 at the farm on 28th St. when it was a two-lane dirt road. Henry married the love of his life, Shirley DeHaan, on January 12, 1960. He was a man of great ingenuity who could fix anything, loved helping people, gave to many charities that were close to his heart, was a hard worker, was never late to work, loved taking road trips, and would never let anything go to waste. Henry was a man of faith and wanted to make sure every person he came into contact with had an opportunity to know the love of Jesus and “not miss out on Heaven”. He went home with a sparkle in his eye and a smile on his face. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 43 years, Shirley; 4 brothers, Ade, Peter, Rich, Elmer; sister, Martha; son-in-law, Michael Sterkel; granddaughter, Kelly Jean Van Sledright. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Pat (Lyle) Quenzer, Darryl (Gail) Van Sledright, Sherwin (Ronda) Van Sledright, Malinda Van Sledright;10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; brother, Ray (Lorraine) Van Sledright; sisters-in-law, Flo Lanning, Ardie Van Sledright, Ruth Van Sledright; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Graveside services will be held 3 pm Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Blain Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Kentwood on Tuesday from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm at the funeral home prior to going to the cemetery. Due to gathering restrictions, there will be a limit on the number of people who may enter the building at a time. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to West Michigan Hospice or Green Acres of Lowell.
