Helen Catherine Sue Smith Konieczny, 83, of Kentwood, passed away peacefully on April 26. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by family sharing their favorite memories with her — just the way she would have wanted, embraced by the love of those dearest to her. Born on April 8, 1942, in Carthage, New York, she was the cherished daughter of Carl and Rena Smith. She was the devoted wife of Ken for 64 years and 4 months. They met September 29, 1960, and married December 17, 1960 – a true love story from the moment they met. She is survived by the love of her life, Ken and her greatest joys, her children: Melissa and Bill, Melinda and Denny, Kenny and Francine, Joelle and Brian, and Tom and Stephanie. Helen was a proud grandmother to Stephanie and Ricky, Brett, Tera and Daniel, Kyle, Ciara and Anthony, Shelby and George, Eilish, Rena, Justine and Kiwan, Kane and Morgan, Chloe and Nate, Lilia, Tristan and Hizabela, Keely, and Fiona, and a loving great-grandmother to Dominick, Mya, Alexander, Kallie, Nikolas, William, and Kennedy. She is also survived by her beloved sister-in-law, Sally (John) Pancheck, as well as special nieces Kelly Legg and Nikki Smith, and many other nieces, nephews, and extended family who will miss her deeply. She was preceded by her parents, Carl and Rena Smith, beloved sister, Carolyn Smith, and many special friends.

Helen often said the best job she ever had was raising her children, which she did with great pride. She fiercely and lovingly championed for her children and grandchildren. While raising her family, she spent countless hours canning fruits and vegetables and preparing delicious homemade jams. She was an accomplished seamstress and loved to sew for her family.

Helen and Ken enjoyed traveling throughout the years, including visits to the Great Smoky Mountains and several winters in Arizona. She also enjoyed riding beside Ken on his Harley Davidson. Ken said being married to Helen was the best time in his life.

Instead of thinking of me with sadness, smile and think of me when you read a good book, smell the spring rain and hear the laughter of a young child. See you on the other side!

Cremation has taken place and at last no weight problems! A private family burial will take place at Cedar Creek Cemetery in Delton, Michigan.

I always admired Helen for her ability to keep on top of things. I don’t mean standing on boxes. the one thing that always amazes me was that she would have Christmas already by Halloween. By that I mean she had gifts bought and already wrapped. How I always wished I could do that. She loved making doll clothes. I know she told a lot about sewing doll clothes for the granddaughters. I will miss visiting with her immensely. Thinking of all of you and sending condolences.

Helen will be greatly missed. Even though we live hundreds of miles away, we will always remember Helen fondly and the days when we only lived a few city blocks away. Prayers to her family. Rest in Peace Helen.
