Helen Scherbinski, age  98, of Kentwood, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.  Helen was a very thrifty lady, saving receipts and coupons like a professional.  She enjoyed eating at Long John Silvers, freezing berries and canning pickles and tomatoes.  She also enjoyed going to the casino with her husband.  She loved spending time with her beloved family, cherishing her time with them above all.  She was preceded in death by her husband, William.  She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Denise Perry, Daniel Scherbinski, Gerald and Maxine Scherbinski, Sheila and Dan Ledger, Brenda Grant, Kevin and Debra Scherbinski; nine grandchildren, many great grandchildren; brother, Ron Helminiak; and many nieces and nephews.  Relatives and friends may visit the family from 12:30-2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 27, 2025 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park Ave. SW, Wyoming.  A burial service will be held at Resurrection Cemetery.

31 years ago, we moved into the house next door. Who knew that we would have been blessed with such sweet neighbors. Our deepest condolences of the passing of Helen. She will be greatly missed. It as been a joy getting to know some of you. Thank neighbor for being so kind to us over the last 31 years.

I just wanted to take a moment to share a few words about Helen. From my first holiday with her and Bill, I felt their warmth. Helen had a way of opening her home, and her heart, with such ease. Whether it was a big family gathering or a quiet visit, she never failed to offer me a pop, a seat at the table, and the sense that I belonged. That really meant a lot to me, as my own family was so far away. One of my favorite memories is listening to Helen talk about the camping trips she and Bill took with their friends when they were younger. Her eyes would light up as she recalled the laughter they shared. In those moments, I wish we could have traveled back in time to camp with them, because I could tell that she would have been such a great friend to have. That connection is something I'll always hold close. I will miss her quiet humor and her graciousness. But more than that, I will miss the way that she made me feel like part of her family.
