Harris J. Broene

Harris Jay Broene, age 87, of Allendale, went home to be with his Lord and Savior while surrounded by family on Sunday, May 29, 2016.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Jennie, a sister, three brothers, and daughter, Sharell Meyer.  He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Elsie (Terpstra); his children, David and Joan Broene, Janice and David Barton, Jill and Rick Slagter; his grandchildren, Chris and Angela Roosien (Mikayla, Keegan, Cayden), Allen and Lindsey Broene (CoraLinda), Tim and Mandy Porterfield (Charlie, Casey), Drew and Mandy Slagter (Kinsley, Myla), Kyle and Brittani Trevino (Karter, Easton), Brett and Christina Barton, Brian and Courtney Grysen, and Scott Barton. Harris was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He was the founder of Broene’s Furniture in Allendale, and he was a lifelong member of First Allendale CRC. Harris and Elsie enjoyed 36 wonderful winters in Anna Maria Island, Florida. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 2 at 1 pm at  Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf (corner of Avery and Scott) 6651 Scott St., Allendale, with Pastor Don Van Slyke officiating.  Relatives and friends may meet the family on Wednesday from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
