Grace DeVries

Grace DeVries, age 94, of Grand Rapids, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, July 17, 2020. She was a faith-filled, devoted Christian woman who instilled that same faith into her family by word and example. She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, John DeVries; and four siblings. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Betty and John Bouwman, Fran and Ron DeYoung, Grace and Mark Hogan, Ken and Lorri DeVries, Mike and Barb DeVries; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Harry and Janet Kuperus; sisters-in-law, Jennie Kuperus, Janet Kuperus. A private family service will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at 2 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, with Pastor Ron DeYoung officiating. The service will be livestreamed on the MKD website. Go to the bottom of the home page and click on “Watch Recorded Service Here.” Interment will be held at Coopersville-Polkton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Edison Christian Foundation, Emmanuel Hospice, or Grand Rapids Right to Life.

Grace gave us the warmest welcome when we moved into Edison Manor. We loved hearing her stories of the old country and coming to America. She had such a joy and zest for life but her love for the Lord was number one. She raised a beautiful family and you loved her so well. I had not heard she had gone home until the last newsletter. My sincere sympathy dear hearts. I loved her too.

Grace and I had fun times together. She liked to laugh and enjoy life. But she also loved serving her Lord by serving others. Whether by visiting, planting flowers, sending notes, making a phone call, attending programs, or folding laundry at the Christian Rest Home, she loved serving her Lord. Welcome home, good and faithful servant, welcome home!

Dear Betty & John, Fran & Ron, Grace & Mark, Ken & Lorri, Mike & Barb, I am sorry for the loss of your mom. I trust the celebration of your mom's earthly life is filled with love, grace, smiles, and laughs. The news of her passing into glory with our heavenly Father hit home and had me reminiscing about growing up in Sussex. Your mom, Grace DeVries, always had a special place within our Postma household. How well I remember my mom, Rena Postma, telling stories of how she and your mom enjoyed talking and laughing together and how they would be the last two chatting in the parking lot after a church or school meeting!! Your mom's care and love for my brother, Bill, was truly a blessing from God. She was the feet and hands of Jesus for my mom/ my parents, and that has and will always remain special to me. The love your mom gave to others made her a beautiful person inside and out. I pray that our Heavenly Father's Spirit will be with each of you as you grieve.
