Gertrude Westrate, age 101,  passed away on Friday, September 4, 2026.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Richard Westrate; siblings, John (Joan) Kamp, Peter (Emeline) Kamp, Jane (Dan) DeMeester, Helen Kamp, Dick (Ruth) Kamp, Martina (George) Feyter, Henry Kamp, and Ada (Henry) Bloem. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Lena Kamp.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Janna (Dave) Shamery, Laurie (John) VanZweden, Dick (Lynn) Westrate, Jim (Tammy) Westrate, Tim (Joan) Westrate; 20 grandchildren, Brenda (Timothy) Pols, Bethany (Nick) Prince, Rachel (Aaron) Crump, Benjamin VanZweden, Rick Westrate, Kate Westrate, Nate (Karina) Westrate, Kim (Matt) Glutting, Nick (Melany) Westrate, Rebeckah (Dan) VanderHeide, Tina (Robert) Byl, James (Kristi) Westrate, Tom (Rachel) Westrate, Elianna Westrate, Stephanie Westrate, Paula Westrate, Tim (Grace) Westrate, Tyler (Abbie) Westrate, Kyle (Kate Hausmann) Westrate, Sara (Josh) Greendyk; 37 great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, September 10  at MKD Funeral Home, 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Kentwood, with Dr. Joel Beeke officiating. A committal service officiated by Rev. John Byl, will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday, September 9 from 5-7 pm at the funeral home.Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Grace Christian Academy (on Ball Ave, Grand Rapids) or Rest Haven Homes Grand Rapids.
