Gertrude (Gert) Borgeld, aged 90 passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2016. Gert was born February 20, 1926 in Passaic, NJ. There she met a sailor, Bill Borgeld, who would become the love of her life. They had two boys, Bill and Bob born in New Jersey before moving to Grand Rapids where they had two more sons, David and Tim and daughter, Jeanne. Gert was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her husband, Bill preceded her in death as well as sons, David and Tim. She is survived by her sons, Bill (Sue) Borgeld, Bob (Jewel) Borgeld, Jeanne (John) Anderson; grandchildren, Rachael, Carrie, Jayme, Erika, Devin and Max; great-granddaughters, Hannah, Claire, Emma and Layla; and numerous friends, Gert loved life and was “as sharp as a tack”. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. Funeral services for Gert will be held Monday at 11:00 am at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1934 – 52nd St. SE with Rev. Michael Wentzel officiating. Interment in Graceland Memorial Gardens. Members of the family will receive relatives and friends at the Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Chapel (Kentwood), 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE on Sunday from 2-6 pm and Monday from 10-11 am at the church. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to St. Mark Lutheran Church.
