Gertie Scholten

Gertie Scholten, age 93, of Allendale, was called to her heavenly home on Monday, November 2, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her son, Howard; an infant grandson and her step granddaughter. She treasured her family dearly and was always supportive and involved with her children and grandchildren.   She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Glenda and Larry Grassmid, Don and Betsy Scholten, John Jr. and Carol Scholten, Roger Scholten; daughter-in-law, Sonie Scholten; 19 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; sister, Bertha Hoekstra of IA; special nephew, Wilbur Doeksen of CO; many other nieces, nephews and cousins. She worked at Grand Valley State University in the food service department for 39 years. Funeral services will be held on Saturday 11 am at North Blendon Reformed Church, 7224 Taylor, Hudsonville, with Pastor Nate Meldrim officiating. Interment Allendale Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday from 4-7 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf (corner of Avery and Scott) 6651 Scott St., Allendale. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to North Blendon Reformed Church or a charity of one’s choice.
